James R. Murphy, Jr. has practiced law in the State of California since 1975 and is firmly committed to a philosophy of the practice of law which emphasizes the rights of the client. Jim graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1970 and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society in 1970. Jim studied Juvenile Corrections on a post-graduate level at the University of Oregon, then entered law school in 1971. He graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law in 1974 and was admitted to the practice of law in early 1975.

James has been practicing personal injury law over 39 years. Jim was named Central Coast Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2012 and 2013. He has been honored with that prestigious award a total of five times by the Central Coast Trial Lawyers Association, an indication of his reputation and accomplishments within the legal profession. Jim was also runner-up for that award on two other occasions and has received additional awards for the quality of work he performs. Jim has achieved ten million-dollar or more trial verdicts, including a $3 million verdict in 2011 and a $7.7 million verdict in 2013 (resulting in a judgment of $11.1 million).

James has been voted the best attorney in San Luis Obispo County and in Santa Maria by the readership of local newspapers on several occasions. Such acknowledgment is a source of pride to Jim, since the people who gave him these honors are clients whose respect has been earned through hard work and diligent effort.
