James R. Murphy, Jr. has practiced law in the State of California since 1975, and is firmly committed to a philosophy of the practice of law which emphasizes the rights of the client. This office is a service-oriented law firm, and we wish to assist you in any possible way in achieving the goals for which we were retained. If at any time you have any concerns, comments, recommendations or suggestions as to how we can better serve your needs, or as to how we can improve the operation of our firm, James would be very grateful if you would contact him personally.
James graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1970 and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society in 1970. James studied Juvenile Corrections on a post-graduate level at the University of Oregon, then entered law school in 1971. He graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law in 1974, and was admitted to the practice of law in 1975.
James has been practicing personal injury law for 35 years. He has been honored with the prestigious “Trial Lawyer of the Year” award three times by the Central Coast Trial Lawyers Association, an indication of his reputation within the legal profession. James was runner-up for that award on two other occasions and has received additional awards for the quality of work performed by the firm. In 2009, a former partner, Tana Coates, won that same award based on a 1.7 million dollar verdict the firm achieved in a case James tried with Ms. Coates.
James has been voted the best attorney in San Luis Obispo County and in Santa Maria by the readership of local newspapers on several locations. Such an acknowledgment is a source of pride, since the people who gave him these honors are clients whose respect has been earned through hard work and diligent effort.
